RESUMEN

Although the efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy has been widely demonstrated, its clinical application is hampered by the complexity and fatality of its side effects. Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is the most common toxicity following CAR-T cell infusion, and its symptoms substantially overlap with those of infection. Whereas, current diagnostic techniques for infections are time-consuming and not highly sensitive. Thus, we are aiming to develop feasible and efficient models to optimize the differential diagnosis in clinical practice. This study included 191 febrile patients from our center, including 85 with CRS-related fever and 106 with infectious fever. By leveraging the serum cytokine profile at the peak of fever, we generated differential models using a classification tree algorithm and a stepwise logistic regression analysis, respectively. The first model utilized three cytokines (IFN-ß, CXCL1, and CXCL10) and demonstrated high sensitivity (90% training, 100% validation) and specificity (98.44% training, 90.48% validation) levels. The five-cytokine model (CXCL10, CCL19, IL-4, VEGF, and CCL20) also showed high sensitivity (91.67% training, 95.65% validation) and specificity (98.44% training, 100% validation). These feasible and accurate differentiation models may prompt early diagnosis of infections during immune therapy, allowing for early and appropriate intervention.

Abandoned Pb/Zn smelters are often accompanied by a large amount of smelting slag, which is a serious environmental problem. Previous studies have demonstrated that slag deposits pose an environmental threat even if the smelters are shut down. Herein, a Pb/Zn smelter and its impacted zone in GeJiu, Yunnan, China were selected as the study area. The risk and source apportionment of heavy metals (HMs) in the soil of the impacted zone were systematically studied. Based on the hydrogeological features, the migration path and output fluxes of the HMs released from smelting slag to the impacted zone were investigated. The HM contents (Cd, As, Zn, Pb, and Cu) in the soil substantially exceeded the screening values of the Chinese soil standard (GB15618-2018). Based on the results of the Pb isotopic and statistical analyses for source apportionment, the contaminated sites and agricultural irrigation water had a large impact on the HMs of soil. The hydrological analysis results showed that runoff, as an HM migration path under rainfall, continued to affect the environment. The water balance calculations using the Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance model showed that the rainfall was distributed on site as follows: evaporation (57.35%), runoff (32.63%), and infiltration (10.02%). Finally, the output fluxes were calculated in combination with the leaching experiment. As, Zn, Cd, Pb, and Cu runoff had the output fluxes of 6.1 × 10-3, 4.2 × 10-3, 4.1, 1.4 × 10-2, and 7.2 × 10-4 mg/kg/y, and infiltration of 1.9 × 10-3, 1.3 × 10-3, 1.3, 4.0 × 10-4, and 2.2 × 10-4 mg/kg/y, respectively. Therefore, this study offers theoretical and scientific recommendations for effective environmental management and engineering remediation.

Mining and smelting are the main sources of soil heavy metal pollution. Leaching and release of heavy metals in soils has been extensively studied. However, there are few researches on the release behavior of heavy metals from the Angle of mineralogy of smelting slag. This study focuses on the pollution of arsenic and chromium by traditional pyrometallurgical lead-zinc smelting slag in southwest China. Based on the mineralogy of smelting slag, the release behavior of heavy metals in smelting slag was studied. As and Cr deposit minerals were identified by MLA analysis, and the weathering degree and bioavailability of As and Cr deposit minerals were analyzed. The results showed that the weathering degree of slag was positively correlated with the bioavailability of heavy metals. The leaching experiment results showed that the higher pH was beneficial to the release of As and Cr. It was found that the chemical forms of As and Cr changed from relatively stable forms to easily released forms (As5+ to As3+ and Cr3+ to Cr6+) by characterizing the metallurgical slag during leaching. In the transformation process, the S in the pyrite as the enclosing layer is eventually oxidized to SO42-, which will accelerate the dissolution of the enclosing mineral. SO42- will occupy the adsorption site of As on the mineral surface, thus reducing the adsorption amount of As on the mineral surface. Fe is finally oxidized to Fe2O3, and the increase of Fe2O3 content in the waste residue will produce strong adsorption effect on Cr6+ and slow down the release of Cr6+. The results show that the release of As and Cr is controlled by the pyrite coating.

RESUMEN

The accumulation of heavy metals in soil and crops is considered to be a severe environmental problem due to its various harmful effects on animals and plants. Soil adsorption is an essential characteristic of mud, which is the fundamental reason for soil to have a specific self-purification capacity and environmental capacity for heavy metals. The adsorption of heavy metals by soil reduces the uptake of these pollutants by crops, thereby limiting food contamination. Therefore, the adsorption of heavy metals in crop soils was taken as the primary research object. Based on the entire reading of the literature, the previous research results were compared and discussed from the four aspects of heterogeneity, physical and chemical properties, competitive adsorption, and external factors. The influencing mechanism of heavy metal adsorption characteristics in soil was reviewed. Finally, suggestions and prospects for future research on heavy metal adsorption were put forward.

The present study adopted a novel parallel-process growth mixture modeling (GMM) technique to research the adaptive interaction between foreign language learners' learning motivation and emotions, with a view to advancing our understanding of how language learning motivation and emotions (enjoyment and anxiety) adaptively interact with each other over time. The present study, situated in the Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) learning context, collected learning motivation and emotion data from 176 Chinese EFL learners over a period of two semesters (12 months). The GMM technique adopted in the study identified three developmental profiles of motivation and two of emotions, respectively. The study further distilled salient patterns of motivation-emotion interaction over time, patterns significant for designing and implementing pedagogical interventions for motivation enhancement. The parallel-process GMM technique was also proven to be a useful approach to parsing learner variety and learning heterogeneity, efficiently summarizing the complex, dynamic processes of motivation and emotion development.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effects of supplementing the diet of Jinjiang bulls with guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) on their feed efficiency [feed efficiency were evaluated with feedlot average daily gain (ADG), average daily feed intake (ADFI), and feed-to-gain ratio (F:G)], blood measures, and meat quality. Forty-five Jinjiang bulls (24 ± 3 months old and 350.15 ± 30.39 kg by weight) were randomly distributed among five experimental groups (each n = 9) and each group was randomly fed with one of five diets (concentrate: roughage ratio of 60:40): (1) control; (2) 0.05% GAA; (3) 0.1% GAA; (4) 0.2% GAA; and (5) 0.4% GAA, respectively. After a 52-days feeding trial, five bulls from the control group and five bulls from the optimal GAA supplementing group were randomly selected and slaughtered for collection of the longissimus thoracis (LT) and semitendinosus (SM) muscles to determine meat quality. The results showed that dietary GAA improved the ADG, decreased the value of F:G, and affected blood measures and antioxidant variables. Supplementing 0.2% GAA into the diet was optimal for feeding efficiency and most of the measured blood measures. Supplementing 0.2% GAA into the diet increased the a* (redness) values, and b* (yellowness) values, and the amount of creatine kinase (CK), muscle glycogen, creatinine (CRE), and laminin (LN) in LT muscles. However, it decreased the drip loss, L* (lightness) value, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) content of LT muscles. Drip loss and shear force decreased in SM muscles, as did the amount of type IV collagen (CV-IV). In conclusion, supplementing 0.2% GAA into the diet could enhance feed efficiency to improve beef growth and meat quality.

Pyruvate and creatine, energetics and antioxidant substances, can promote rumen fermentation and metabolism. This study aimed to evaluate the stress resistance and rumen fermentation effects of the compound creatine pyruvate (CrPyr) in diets for beef cattle under heat stress. Four Jinjiang steers fitted with permanent rumen cannulas were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design and fed a diet supplemented with CrPyr at 0, 20, 40, or 60 g/d. Heat stress was employed for 62 of 64 days. Supplementing with CrPyr elevated their levels of free triiodothyronine and triiodothyronine, superoxide dismutase activity, ruminal pH value, microbial crude protein concentration, crude fat digestibility, nitrogen intake, and levels of urine allantoin and total purine derivatives. It also reduced their levels of cortisol and corticosterone, malondialdehyde concentration, lactate dehydrogenase activity, and urine nitrogen excretion. In conclusion, CrPyr relieves the heat stress of beef cattle by improving antioxidant activity and rumen microbial protein synthesis.
